What does a contact's Lifecycle Stage field indicate?

The Lifecycle Stage field in the Contacts module depicts the entire lifecycle of a contact. It has different values such as Lead, Marketing Qualified Lead, Sales Qualified Lead, Customer, etc.
When you convert a lead, you can use one of the lifecycle values to represent it.
