OpenWeather app in Vtiger CRM

 

The OpenWeather app displays climatic conditions for a given location. You can now integrate the OpenWeather app with Vtiger CRM and  learn about your contact’s and lead’s city’s weather conditions. 

It helps you in:

  • Planning in-person meetings or interactions with your customers at their location.
  • Avoid client meetups during bad weather. 

OpenWeather app integration in Vtiger CRM is called the Weatherapp feature.

After you install and integrate the Weatherapp extension in CRM, it appears in the Contacts and Leads module. OpenWeather app or Wheatherapp is displayed in the Summary View > Weather Details section of every contact or lead record.

It displays weather details by default provided one of the following Address Details is available for the records:

  1. Mailing City 
  2. Mailing Country along with Mailing Zip
  3. Other City 
  4. Other Country along with Other Zip

If the location-related data is unavailable for a record, the Weatherapp lets you search for weather reports for cities across the world.

Note:

  • Weatherapp is available only for the Contacts and Leads module in Vtiger CRM.
  • Weatherapp feature in Vtiger CRM is built using VTAP, to know more about VTAP click here.

The Weatherapp helps you learn about weather conditions at client locations and avoid customer interactions during bad weather. 

To integrate OpenWeather with Vtiger CRM you must:

  • Have an active business account with OpenWeather.
  • Enable the Weatherapp extension in Vtiger CRM.

Key Terminology

WeatherApp

Are usually sites or apps by which users can fetch information about the weather conditions of a specific region. The apps also help you know the weather forecast details as well.

API Key

It is a secret authentication code that identifies its user, or program. These keys are unique identifiers that secure your applications from cyber abuse or malicious use.

Temperature Unit

The International System of Units (SI) for measuring temperature. In most parts of the world, Celsius or Fahrenheit scale is usually used for measuring temperature.

Custom Search

The search engine lets you type a keyword in the search bar in  your website or app to help you retrieve specific information.


Installing Weatherapp

The OpenWeather app is a third-party app that you must install from Vtiger’s Extension Store. 

Note: Only Admin users can install extensions. 

Follow these steps to install OpenWeatherapp extension:

  1. Log into your CRM account.
  2. Click the User Menu.
  3. Click Add-ons on the bottom left corner of the screen.
  4. Look for Weathreapp.

Or

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Look for Extensions.
  3. Click Extension Store.
  4. Look for Weatherapp.
  5. Click Install.
  6. Click Yes to confirm the installation.

Once you have installed it successfully, follow these steps to find the app:

  1. Login to your CRM account.
  2. Click the User Menu.
  3. Look for Lead & Contact Management.
  4. Click Contacts (or Leads). This takes you to its List View.
  5. Click the Settings icon to display the Weather Settings option.

Integrating OpenWeather with Vtiger CRM

Let us learn how to integrate OpenWeather with the Contacts and Leads module in Vtiger CRM.

Integrating OpenWeather with Vtiger CRM requires you to:

  • Step 1:  Retrieve the OpenWeather API Key
  • Step 2: Configure the OpenWeather app settings in Vtiger CRM

These steps require navigating back and forth between the Vtiger CRM screen and the OpenWeather app.

Step 1: Retrieving OpenWeather API Key

 

Follow these steps to retrieve the OpenWeather API Key:

  1. Log in to your OpenWeather account. This takes you to the  home screen.
  2. Click API keys.
  3. Under Key, copy the API Key to a Notepad or a document.

Step 2: OpenWeather app settings in Vtiger CRM

 

Follow these steps to configure OpenWeather app settings in Vtiger CRM:

  1. Login to your CRM account.
  2. Click the User Menu.
  3. Look for Lead & Contact Management.
  4. Click Contacts (or Leads). This takes you to Contacts  List View.Click the Settings icon.
  5. Click Weather Settings. This takes you to the Weather App Settings window.
  6. Paste the copied API Key in the API Key field.
  7. Select a Temperature unit.
  8. Click Save.

You have now successfully integrated OpenWeather with Vtiger CRM.

Accessing Weatherapp

 



In this section let us learn how to use the OpenWeather app for the Contacts and Leads modules in Vtiger CRM:

Follow these steps to access the Weatherapp in Vtiger CRM:

  1. Login to your CRM account.
  2. Click the User Menu.
  3. Look for Lead & Contact Management.
  4. Click Contacts (or Leads).
  5. Click a Contact record. This takes you to its Summary View.
  6. If one of the following details for the contact record is available, by default its weather details along with its map are displayed in the Weather Details section.
  1. Mailing City 
  2. Mailing Country along with Mailing Zip
  3. Other City 
  4. Other Country along with Other Zip

Note: If more than one location detail is available for the contact or lead record, the app displays weather details for these locations as per the list mentioned above.

You have now successfully accessed the Weatherapp in Vtiger CRM.

Custom Search in Weatherapp



If location details are not specified for a contact or lead record, you can use custom search to look up weather details for cities around the world.

Follow these steps to custom search in Vtiger CRM Weatherapp:

  1. Go to the Weather Details section.
  2. In the Search bar enter the name of the city whose weather details you wish to know.
  3. Click the Search icon. This will take you to the weather details of the city.

With this, you can custom search weather reports for any city of your choice.

Disabling Weatherapp

Admin users can disable the Weather app in Vtiger CRM by disabling the Weatherapp extension.

Follow these steps to disable the Weatherapp feature:

  1. Log in to your CRM account.
  2. Click the User Menu.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Look for Module Management.
  5. Click Modules.
  6. Uncheck the Weatherapp extension.
  7. Once you uncheck the Weatherapp extension, the following success message is displayed, Weatherapp Module Disabled.

You have now successfully disabled the Weather app in Vtiger CRM.
