How do I configure WhatsApp with Clickatell for Vtiger CRM?

This process involves to-and-fro navigation between Vtiger CRM, Clickatell, and WhatsApp screens and involves the following steps:
  • Step 1:  Configure WhatsApp and Clickatell in Vtiger CRM
  • Step 2: Adding your WhatsApp number on Clickatell
  • Step 3: Retrieving the API Key
  • Step 4: Adding API Key in Vtiger CRM
Note: Only admin users can configure WhatsApp with Clickatell for Vtiger CRM. 

Step 1:  Configure WhatsApp and Clickatell in Vtiger CRM
Follow the below steps to integrate WhatsApp with Clickatell:
  1. Log in to your CRM account.
  2. Click the User Menu.
  3. Click Essentials.
  4. Look for Conversations.
  5. Click WhatsApp.
  6. Click Settings.
  7. Click +Add. The Add Configuration window opens.
  8. Enter or select the following in the Add Configuration window.
    1. Provider: Choose the Provider as Clickatell.
    2. Active: Select Active input as Yes.
    3. Once you choose the Provider as Clickatell, Status Callback and Incoming Callback URLs fields are displayed. 
    4. Copy the Status Callback and Incoming Callback URLs (to a Notepad or a document). 
You will now have to navigate to the Clickatell screen for Step 2.
 
Step 2: Adding your WhatsApp number on Clickatell
On the Clickatell screen, you must set up WhatsApp, Test Phones, and API Integrations. You can retrieve the API Key in the API Integrations section.
Note: Keep your Clickatell login credentials, Status Callback, and Incoming Callback URLs ready before you begin. 

Follow these steps to create your Clickatell WhatsApp account:
  1. Log in to your Clickatell account. The Clickatell Homepage appears.
  2. Click WhatsApp. The WhatsApp screen appears.
  3. Click +Create New WhatsApp Account. The New WhatsApp Account screen opens.
  4. Fill in the required WhatsApp Application details.
    1. If WhatsApp approves your WhatsApp Application, your Clickatell WhatsApp account will be displayed on the My WhatsApp Accounts screen.
    2. Follow these steps to find your Clickatell WhatsApp account:
      1. Log in to your Clickatell account. 
      2. Click WhatsApp.
      3. You can find your WhatsApp account under the My Workspace > WhatsApp screen.
  5. If you already have an existing Clickatell WhatsApp account click the same.
  6. Follow these steps to add a test phone:
    1. Click Test Phones on the Homepage. The Test Phones screen opens.
    2. Choose your desired Country Code and enter the Phone Number.
    3. Click Add to add a test phone. The entered phone number will now be available in the My Test Phones list view.
In the next step, you must retrieve and paste the API Key into Vtiger CRM. 

Step 3: Retrieving the API Key
Follow these steps to retrieve the API Key from your WhatsApp account in Clickatell. 
  1. Log in to your Clickatell account.
  2. Click My Workspace.
  3. Click My WhatsApp Accounts. The WhatsApp Accounts screen opens.
  4. Click on your WhatsApp Account to display the API Key and API Integrations.
  5. Choose Setup Type as Sandbox if you are testing and Production if you want to start using WhatsApp. 
  6. Under Reply Callbacks, paste the Incoming Callback URL in the Enter target address field. 
  7. Under Enable Delivery Notifications, paste the Status Callback URL in the Enter target address field.
  8. Click Next. You will be directed to the API Details & Test Phones screen, where you will find the API Key in the One API Details section.
  9. Click Copy to copy the API Key.
  10. Click Next.
  11. You will be directed to the below screen, allowing Clickatell to send WhatsApp messages to your customers directly. Since you need to send WhatsApp messages from the CRM, click Skip.
  12. If the WhatsApp number was successfully added to your Clickatell account, a confirmation message, 'Account Setup Complete,' is displayed. You will also receive a confirmation from WhatsApp.
  13. Click Done for Now.

You will now have to navigate back to Vtiger CRM.

Step 4: Adding API Key in Vtiger CRM
Follow these steps to add the API Key (you copied on the Clickatell screen):
  1. Login to your CRM account.
  2. Click the User Menu.
  3. Click Essentials.
  4. Look for Conversations.
  5. Click WhatsApp.
  6. Click Settings.
  7. Click +Add. The Add Configuration window opens.
  8. Enter or select the following information:
    1. Provider:  Displays Clickatell.
    2. Active: Displays yes.
    3. API Key: Paste the API Key you copied earlier.
    4. Status Callback: Paste the callback URL.
    5. Click Save.
You will be directed to the WhatsApp module, where you can see that Clickatell is successfully added as the Provider.
Whenever you send a WhatsApp message using Clickatell, the WhatsApp module List View screen displays the relevant record. You can click on individual records to view their details.
