Hunter.io is a software solution that helps you find email addresses related to a domain in seconds. It is an advanced email lookup tool. It lets you search domain-specific email addresses helping you connect with employees of a company. It provides their details such as name, email address, phone number, etc. With 100+ million email addresses listed, it offers accurate search criteria and verification checks. It verifies the deliverability of email addresses so you can send your emails confidently.
Hunter.io with Vtiger CRM
Integrating Hunter.io with CRM easily retrieves the count of department-wise email addresses for an Organization-specific domain along with their professional details. It carries out email verifications for your business contacts and explicitly provides their verification statuses.
Note: The Hunter.io feature is available only for the Contacts and Organizations modules in CRM.
Hunter.io for the Organizations module
You can find domain-specific email addresses using Hunter.io using the domain name specified in the website field of an Organization record.
Note: To access Hunter.io from an Organization record, the Website field should be populated with data.
Hunter.io provides the following information:
- The count of domain-specific email addresses (email senders) received for an organization.
- Separate counts of generic (company) and personal (individual) email addresses received.
- The count of email addresses received department-wise, such as Sales, Support, HR, etc.
You can display more details of email addresses such as first name, last name, phone, position, department, etc., and also the sources for email addresses. You can also add contacts from this window.
Hunter.io for the Contacts module
Hunter.io picks the specified email address and the organization from a contact record for email verification. It verifies if a contact’s email address is valid. Once verified, it displays the verification status accordingly. This feature is available in the One View of Contacts records.
Note: To access Hunter.io from a Contact record, the Email and Organization Name fields should be populated with data.

Prerequisites
To integrate Hunter.io with Vtiger CRM you must:
- Have an active business account with Hunter.io.
- Enable the Hunter.io extension in Vtiger CRM.
Installing Hunter.io
Hunter.io is a third-party app that you must install from Vtiger’s Extension Store. You can install extensions only if you are an Admin user in the CRM.
Follow these steps to install Hunter.io:
- Log into your CRM account.
- Click the User Menu on the top right corner of the screen.
- Click Add-ons on the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Look for the Hunter IO extension.
- Click Install.
- Click Yes to confirm the installation.
Once you have installed it successfully, follow these steps to find the app:
- Login to your CRM account.
- Click the User Menu.
- Look for Lead & Contact Management.
- Click Organizations.
- Click the Settings icon. Hunter.io is now available in Settings.
Integrating Hunter.io with CRM

Integrating Hunter.io with CRM requires:
- Step 1: Retrieving the Hunter.io API Key
- Step 2: Integrating Hunter.io with Organizations
These steps require navigating back and forth between the Vtiger CRM screen and the Hunter.io portal.
Step 1: Retrieving the Hunter.io API Key
Follow these steps to retrieve the Hunter.io API Key:
- Login to your CRM account.
- Click the User Menu.
- Look for Lead & Contact Management.
- Click Organizations.
- Click the Settings icon.
- Click Hunter.io Settings. You will be directed to the Hunter.io Setup page.
- Click the Copy your API key from here link. You will be directed to the Hunter.io portal.
- Login to your Hunter.io account. You will be directed to the home screen.
10. Click the Copy icon to copy the API Key. (To a Notepad or a document.)
Step 2: Integrating Hunter.io with Organizations
Follow these steps to integrate Hunter.io with Organizations:
- Go back to the Vtiger CRM Hunter.io Setup page.
- Paste the copied API Key in the Hunter.io API Key field.
- Click Save.
- If Hunter.io was integrated successfully, the Saved Successfully notification is displayed.
You have now successfully integrated Hunter.io with the Organizations module in CRM.
Accessing Hunter.io in the Organizations Module
For the Organizations module, the Hunter.io feature searches and reports the count of domain-specific email addresses received for an Organization. It provides separate counts of personal and generic email addresses received. Clicking more details you can:
- View detailed information of senders from mail addresses
- Add email senders as contacts to CRM.
- View sources for email addresses.
In this section, let us learn how to access the Hunter.io feature in the Organizations module and display relevant details.
Follow these steps to access Hunter.io in the Organizations module:
- Login to your CRM account.
- Click the User Menu.
- Look for Lead & Contact Management.
- Click Organizations.
- Click on an Organization record. You will be directed to its Summary View.
- Click the One View widget on the right corner of the screen to display the One View section.
- If the website details of an organization record are available, the Hunter.io widget displays the count of email addresses for the organization’s domain department-wise. For instance, in the screenshot, Hunter.io is displaying the count of email addresses (34) received department-wise for the domain www.vtiger.com specified for the Organization Vtiger CRM.
You have now successfully accessed Hunter.io in the Organizations module.

Adding Contacts and Viewing Sources in the Domain Window
Hovering your mouse over the domain window displays the Add Contact and View Source icons on the right corner of the screen.
In the domain window:
- The Add Contact icon lets you add email senders (addresses) as contacts in the CRM. The contacts added are updated in the Organization record and Contacts module.
- The View Source icon lets you view sources for email addresses.
Follow these steps to add a contact from the domain window:
- Click the Add Contact icon.
- You will be directed to the Add Contact window. Enter other necessary contact details.
- Note: The fields will be auto-filled if details are available for the contact.
- Click Save.
You have now successfully added a contact from the domain window.
Follow these steps to view sources for email addresses from the domain window:
- Click the View Source icon.
- The Source window displays various source details for the email addresses.
You have now successfully viewed sources for email addresses from the domain window.
Accessing Hunter.io in the Contacts Module for Email Verification
You can use the Hunter.io feature to verify contacts’ email addresses in the Contacts module. Once verified, Hunter.io provides the following verification statuses:
- Valid - If the email address’s verification is successful.
- Invalid - If the email address’s verification is unsuccessful.
In this section, let us learn how to access Hunter.io in the Contacts module to verify contacts' email addresses.
Follow these steps to verify a contact’s email address:
- Login to your CRM account.
- Click the User Menu.
- Look for Lead & Contact Management.
- Click Contacts.
- Click a Contact record. You will be directed to its Summary View.
- Click the One View on the right corner of the screen. You will be directed to its One View.
7. You can now view the Hunter.io email verification widget.
- Click the ? icon to verify the contact’s email address.
- If the verification is unsuccessful, the Status displays invalid, and the invalid email verification message is displayed. For instance, Henry Jude’s email address, [email protected] verified by Hunter.io, is invalid.
You have now successfully verified a contact’s email address using Hunter.io in the Contacts module.
