Introduction

The picklist dependency setup offers you a seamless way of selecting only desired values from the picklist fields.

You can set up a dependency between two picklist fields (source and target picklist fields). By selecting a value in the source picklist field, you’ll have complete control over the target picklist fields.

For instance, we will consider a real-time example. I have two different fields in the Products Module. Manufacturer - source field, and Usage Unit - target field. When a value is selected in the Manufacturer field, only Usage Units related to the selected manufacturer should be displayed in a field.
Now let’s begin.

Picklist dependency offers you a seamless way of selecting only desired values from the picklist fields. You’ll need to set up a dependency between two picklist fields (source and target picklist fields).

What is the advantage of Picklist Dependency?
It gives you the flexibility to select appropriate values explicitly and eliminates the scope for erroneous and inaccurate data.

Configuring Picklist Dependency

Before we set up picklist dependency, we’ll have to select a module, a source field, and a target field. The entire process is made simple and straightforward.

Follow a few simple steps to set picklist dependency

  1. Log in to the CRM.
  2. Click the User Menu on the top right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Click Configuration.
  5. Click Picklist Dependency.
  6. Click +Add Picklist Dependency and select the necessary options.

Note! Values in blue are selected, and values in grey are unselected.

  1. Click Save.

After successfully setting up picklist dependency, you can select a value in the source field to view only corresponding values in the target field. From the above example, upon selecting a manufacturer, we should be able to see only the usage units related to it.

We’ve deployed picklist dependency on fields in the Products module. In the create view or edit view of a product record, we will select a value in the Manufacturer field; as a result, appropriate values will be displayed in the Usage Units field

This gives you the flexibility to select appropriate values explicitly and eliminates the scope for erroneous and inaccurate data.
